Do I Have to Practice Anymore?

Mylie-isms for April

Saturday, April 1 Happy April Fool's Day! We thought about calling Grammie today to tell her that Mommy was going to have another baby, but we never got around to it. Besides, we didn't want to dissapoint her too much when she found out it was just a trick. For most of the day we stayed at home and watched General Conference, but in the evening Mylie got to go with Daddy to the Priesthood Session at the Stake Center while Mommy went to Mom's Night Out in Bellevue. It's funny how even when all the mommies take a break, they can't ever stop talking about the babies!

Tuesday, April 4 Mommy had to go to school today, and Mylie went to Lola's house. But first, we went together to the Tiny Tot's concert in Seattle. This one was all about Haydn, and Mylie got to hear string instruments play. She was much more interested than last time, and even figured out that she was supposed to clap when the music stopped. She is so smart and is more fun every day!

Friday, April 7 Grammie came up last night to visit for the weekend, and to work with Daddy on some projects for her work. It works out ever so nicely that her consultant and her only grandchild happen to live in the same house! So Grammie got to go with us to Gymboree today, and had so much fun. Later, Grammie babysat while Mommy went to go shopping for some gifts for a wedding and bridal shower that are coming up. While she was gone, Grammie turned her back on Mylie for just a split second and Mylie managed to pull the whole high chair down on top of herself! She gave herself a really nice black eye, and made Grammie feel terrible! Grammie was especially worried that Mommy and Daddy wouldn't let her babysit Mylie for a week when they go on a cruise in September. But she shouldn't worry...she can't get out of it that easy!

Saturday, April 8 Mylie stayed with Grammie and Daddy today while Mommy went down to Tacoma for Nora's Bridal Shower...a Wedding Tea. Luckily, no major accidents for Mylie, so Grammie is off the hook.

Monday, April 10 With Mylie's beautiful black eye and another bruise on her forehead that she acquired during the weekend, we headed off to her 10-month old check-up today. As if the black eye wasn't bad enough, it was a brand new doctor at a brand new practice that we were seeing today! Mommy was sure they were going to turn her in to CPS. But they didn't seem to think twice about it. It is probably a pretty normail occurence for this age group to get a few bruises. The new doctor was wonderful, and even gave Mylie a book to take home with her! Mylie had to get two shots, which weren't pleasant, but she recovered very quickly, and was fine the rest of the day. She weighed in today at 20 lbs, 6 oz and at 29 inches. That puts her in the 64th percentile for weight and the 73rd percentile for height.

Saturday, April 15 We missed our normal Gymboree class this week, so we came today instead, which meant that Daddy got to come. It was a very small class because of Easter Weekend and Spring Break, but Kristina and her Mom were there from the Mom's Group, trying it out.

Sunday, April 16 Today was Easter Sunday, and Mommy was in charge of directing the Easter Program at church. Daddy was conducting the Sacrament Service, and also narrating the Cantata and singing in the choir, so Mylie got to sit with Sister Owen and her son, Cody. She was very good for the whole program...even better than she usually is for Mommy. And Cody (who's about 2 1/2 or 3) really likes her, it seems.

Papa Winters also came to the Service, because Nana was out of town and he sat with the Owen's and Mylie. Later he came over for dinner and got to hang out with us all evening.

Thursday, April 20 Today Mylie and Mommy went to Arizona to go see Great Grandma & Grandpa Miller. We left in the afternoon on a packed flight to Phoenix. Mommy gets better and better each time about traversing the airport with an infant. Luckily, there was a guardian angel woman on the plane who actually volunteered to sit next to us (who volunteers to sit next to a baby on a plane?). Mylie got really tired and cranky during the flight, and this grandmother of 11 took her and held her and rocked her until she fell asleep, and then continued to hold her for most of the rest of the flight so as not to wake her!

We arrived in Phoenix around 6pm where Grandma & Grandpa picked us up and then drove us back to their home in Mesa. Grandma had gone to great trouble to get their house all set up and ready for a baby. She had borrowed a high chair, a pack & play, a walker, and had all kinds of toys and stuffed animals too. She even went shopping and had perfect Mylie-food on hand so that Mylie could eat dinner as soon as we got there.

Friday, April 21 Mylie got to experience a pool for the first time today in the gorgeous Arizona sun. We went as soon as we got up, so it was slightly chilly still. Mylie was a little overwhelmed by the water, and kept making what mommy calls her "anxious laugh," which is a nervous giggle she makes when she's not sure if she should be having fun or be terrified.

Later in the day Grandpa had a doctor's appointment, so they dropped us off at the mall. Mylie wasn't much interested in shopping, so we spent a lot of time playing at the covered-in-germs kiddie area. Mylie LOVED it, and really wanted so badly to be a big kid and run around and jump off toys, but mean old mommy made her stay close and out of the way of the big boys that were stepping on other kids fingers and toes.

Saturday, April 22 We got up early this morning and met Grandma Winters at the Phoenix Zoo. We didn't stay long, because it was getting hot and there was a lot of walking for not very much to see, but Mylie did get to see a peacock, a turkey, a horse, some elephants, a dog, some wallabies and she got to pet some goats. The Anxious Laugh returned when she was petting the goats.

After we went home for a nap, Grandma Winters came over and we all went out to eat. Then, Mylie and Mommy went with Grandma Winters to go shopping out in Scottsdale, where Mylie got her first pair of tennis shoes. She is really starting to do the walking thing, although she's too scared to try it completely solo. Hopefully the shoes will give her more support and help her get brave.

Sunday, April 23 We had a relaxing day at home, and in the afternoon Grandma Winters came over again. We all went outside to play bubbles, and Mylie had a great time walking around (with some gentle help). She really loved walking on the gravel at the side of the driveway, and refused to go on the pavement. Funny kid.

Monday, April 24 Our short trip came to a close today, but not before we gave the swimming pool another shot. This time Mylie enjoyed herself much more, despite the extremely bright sun. She got the hang of kicking her legs and even a little splashing with her hands. After her morning nap, we went out for a little more shopping, and then headed to the airport around 5. Our flight, which was completely booked, was scheduled to leave around 7, but didn't actually leave until 7:45. Luckily, we shaved about 40 minutes off the flight time, which was nice. The darker airplane at night helped Mylie to fall asleep, and she slept for most of the flight. Mommy's back and arms got extremely tired and sore from holding her, but she did enjoy getting to just sit and cuddle with Mylie...something that Mylie rarely does these days because she's always on the move! Daddy met us at the airport, and it was so nice to see him!

Friday, April 28 After just a few short days at home, we loaded back up again but this time into the car and drove with Mommy and Daddy all the way down to Medford, Oregon to go to Kinsy's baby shower. We left later than we wanted to, and Mylie was not as good of traveler as she usually is, so it made for a long trip. But when we got there, she was happy to see her Great Aunt Cheri and Cousin Kinsy.

Saturday, April 29 Today was Kinsy's baby shower, and it was exactly a year ago today that Mommy was having her baby shower for Mylie! Kinsy and David were married almost exactly a year after Mommy and Daddy, and their baby is due almost exactly a year after Mylie! Daddy and David went to go hit a bucket of balls while Mommy and Kinsy were at the shower. But Mylie woke up with a fever, and was not feeling great, and was in need of a nap, so Mommy called Daddy to have him come get her. Back at Kinsy & David's house she slept for a long time. Her fever seemed to get higher and her appetite was greatly reduced, and she wouldn't take any bottles. Mommy started to get a little worried.

Sunday, April 30 We left for home this afternoon with Mylie still feeling under the weather. In order to try to brave the trip a little better, we turned Mylie's car seat facing forward so that Mommy could get to her a little easier. Mylie's fever was still hanging around, and she was extremely fussy on the trip, but would not eat much. In Portland, we stopped at Doug & Penny's house for dinner, where Penny gave her a popsicle. Mylie scarfed it down, and continued to eat 3 or 4 more before we left there to head home. Her throat must have really been bothering her.
