Mylie-isms for September
Thursday, September 1 Mylie and Mommy drove up to pick Daddy up from work
today and we all went out to dinner together. Afterward, we met Daddy's family
at the Temple, where Uncle Steve and Aunt Rachel were after having flown in from
Utah. Mommy & Mylie hung out around outside looking at the beautiful grounds
while Daddy went in with everybody. Afterward, we all went to Outback together,
where Mylie proceeded to fall asleep immediately. We all wished we could sleep
so peacefully in such a crowded and noisy place!
Friday, September 2 We had a crazy day at Gymboree today! There was all
kinds of construction outside the door that we had to dodge on the way in.
The room was excessively hot and muggy once we did get in, and there were
all kinds of Toddlers running crazy in the lobby. Once they finally cleared
out, Catherine, our instructor, told us that an instructor had quit earlier
that morning, creating an overflow in some of the classes, and she thought the
construction guys had damaged the air conditioner, accounting for the heat.
Nevertheless, we began class, only to be interrupted every couple minutes by
construction guys coming in to vacuum up the white dust that was filtering in
through the door. We just started a new type of Tummy Time, where the babies
got to lay on their tummies on beach balls while looking into a mirror on the
ground (so super fun and cute!), when another man came in to make sure we
knew about the fire alarm testing that was going to be happening soon. He said
within five minutes they would start the testing, which would entail a few
minutes of high pitched alarms, and when the fire marshall showed up within the
next twenty minutes, they would sound it for longer. The other mothers and I all
looked at each other and at Catherine, and decided to pack up and leave right
then! We didn't want those poor babies to be there when the alarm went off.
So, fifteen minutes after class started, we packed up and left. But then Shannon
and Anna went out to lunch with us at a neat little Italian restaurant in down
town Renton, so the day did get better.
Saturday, September 3 Today we got up early and drove down to Portland.
Well, we tried to get up early and drive down to Portland, but it turns out that
when you have a baby and you are trying to travel, nothing happens quickly...or
early...or without filling up the entire car. So, we actually left at about 10
am to go down to Portland. We picked up Lisa at the airport where she had just
flew in from Salt Lake City. Then we all drove over to Mommy's friend Joeys
apartment. He and his brother, Matt, took us on the MAX (light rail) down to
the Saturday Market in downtown Portland. Everybody got out of the way to let
whoever was holding Mylie sit down...having a baby is great! At the Market, we
had Elephant Ears and then had to go back to Joey's apartment to change clothes and
head out to Jessie's wedding outside of Portland. The wedding started at 6pm;
we were a couple minutes late, and almost missed the whole ceremony. We left the
wedding just after the cake at about 9pm and drove all the way down to Medford.
Luckily, it was right at Mylie's bedtime, and she slept the whole way. We got
to Kinsy's house at 1am. Grammie, Cody and Kathi were there, and together with Kinsy
and David, they woke Mylie up and played with her in the middle of the night
for almost an hour. Mylie loved her cousin Kinsy! We all got to bed around 2am,
and Mylie got to sleep with Grammie again - her favorite!
Sunday, September 4 We got up early and went to the VanDyke's to celebrate
Uncle Jim & Aunt Kathryn's 25th Wedding Anniversary. It was very sunny and hot,
and we all got a little sunburned. Even Mylie, who spent most of the day in the
shade sleeping in Uncle Cody's arms, got a little pink. That night we went
back to David & Kinsy's for dinner and played games until late into the night.
Monday, September 5 Another early morning and after we packed up the car,
we went over to Aunt Cheri's house and got to spend sometime with Grandma & Grandpa
Miller, who were staying over there. Then we loaded in the car with Grammie and
Cody and drove to Klamath Falls. We spent the evening at Aunt Judy's house celebrating
Uncle Cody's birthday. Aunt Patti was visiting from Santa Rosa and got to meet Mylie
for the first time too. We took all kinds of pictures, and got a four generation shot
with Great Gramma Bryan, Grandpa Bryan, Mommy & Mylie. Mylie was so happy all night
and smiled and laughed for everybody.
Tuesday, September 6 We went for breakfast at Grandpa & Cindy's house and later
went out to lunch with Mommy's friends, Lois & Suzanne. When we went back to Grandpa's,
he was talking about how he hoped that the next time he saw Mylie, she would start to
crack up and laugh at nothing in particular, because he loves it when babies do that.
It couldn't have been five minutes later, when he was looking and talking to Mylie, that
she did just that! She laughed and laughed at her Grandpa and thought he was about
the funniest thing she had ever seen. We even got some of it on video. Finally she
tired out, so we loaded her back into the car and drove up to Bend to Grammie's house.
Wednesday, September 7 After one night at Grammies, we loaded all our treasures
back in the car, which took a good portion of the day. We had collected a few more
items on our adventure, and with all that plus all the stuff we had to pack for the baby
in the first place, there was barely enough room. We almost strapped Mylie and her carseat
to the roof of the car and called it good. We drove back home in the afternoon, but
Mylie got fussy before we got to Portland, and we didn't think she could make it to the
next rest stop, so we pulled over into a Semi-truck turn out on the side of the highway,
and Mommy nursed her. That was a new experience with big trucks and cars whizzing by!
Thursday, September 8 Mommy has started walking with friends on Thursdays
on a really nice trail in downtown Renton. We go for about an hour, and Mylie
talks and talks the whole time, until she falls asleep!
Friday, September 9 Mylie rolled over from front to back today at Gymboree,
but we're pretty sure it was an accident. We were about to do Tummy Time, and
when Mommy tried to set her down, she pushed off Mommy's legs and rolled right
over. It was a one time deal, though, and she hasn't done it since.
Saturday, September 10 We had to make an emergency run to Old Navy today
to buy Mylie some new clothes. We realized that she was born in the middle of
the summer, so all of her clothes that we've been given are sun dresses - even
her 6 - 9 month clothes, which means she'll be wearing lots of pretty sun dresses
in the middle of December! But as it is now officially fall in the Northwest,
starting to get a bit chilly, we needed some pants! Mylie looks adorable in
jeans.
Tuesday, September 13 We went to our New Mommy group today. It was
Heather and Baby Owen's last day before moving to Texas. So before she left
she wanted to get a picture of all the babies. We lined all 9 of them up
on the futon, and attempted to get a picture. Of course, one immediately
started wailing, and it wasn't too long until another started. Within a few
minutes, most were in complete wail. Mylie looked around confused for
awhile, with a look on her face like "Did I miss a memo?" Finally she gave
in to temptation and started to wail too. Some of the moms were very
concerned and would hardly back off long enough for us to snap a picture,
but for the most part, we were all standing back cracking up. It was
absolutely hilarious, and the pictures will most likely prove to be priceless.

Thursday, September 15 Today we got rained out of our weekly walk, so
instead, Mommy, Tiffani and Sara had a scrapbooking party, and Mommy was forced
to join the ranks of the good parents who actually scrapbook. It took three
hours for Mommy to do only one page, and she didn't even totally finish! She
hopes it will get easier as time goes on.
Friday, September 16 Cheri & Darren came over for dinner tonight.
Darren helped Daddy figure out what kind of heaters to install in our house
so that we don't have a Mylie-sicle this winter, and Cheri helped Mommy
decide on what colors to paint the inside of the house.
Saturday, September 17 Mylie got to go with Daddy today to his "Conscious
Fathering" class. She was a model baby, and all the other Daddies with
younger babies got to look forward to having their babies be just like her
when they get older. Afterward, Daddy took her to get an oil change on the car
while Mommy got a chance to go shopping by herself. Later we all went shopping
and ended up buying an entertainment center for our living room, which we just
recently rearranged.
Monday, September 19 Mommy started working this week, both at her job at
the UPS Store, and also at her internship at Seattle University. She is working
about 10 hours per week at each, mostly from home.
Friday, September 23 Mylie rolled over three times today at Gymboree!
Mommy thinks the mats on the ground make it a lot easier than rolling on the
carpet or blankets at home. Later in the evening we went to an Etiquette Dinner
for the youth in our ward, where Mylie learned how to use the right silverware.
She still prefers her meals directly from the tap, however. I guess we're not
quite ready to take over Emily Post's job yet. We also found out today that
Mommy's cousin Kinsy is going to have a baby! Her baby is due exactly one week
after Mylie's 1st Birthday, which is especially ironic since Kinsy and her husband
David got married exactly one year and one week after Mommy & Daddy got married.
We are so excited to have a little cousin to play with!
Saturday, September 24 We went out to breakfast with Cheri today before
going to Home Depot to pick out paint to paint the inside of our house. Mylie
loves going to the tool store - especially the lighting aisle where she just
looks and looks. In the afternoon she got to spend time with Daddy while Mommy
went to the Relief Society General Broadcast at church.
Tuesday, September 27 Another meeting with the New Mom's group today. All
of the babies are getting to be so fun! They are paying attention to each other
and talking and laughing and smiling. Mylie loved to smile and talk to the other
babies and would reach out to try to touch them. It was only then that Mommy
noticed that Mylie's hands are almost twice the size of most of the other babies'!
Mylie continues to improve her rolling skills, and impressed everyone at the lunch
with her abilities. She is also intent on talking. When Mommy talks to her she
watches very closely and tries so hard to move her tongue around. She spends
hours every day blowing "raspberries" and making trumpet noises while spitting
all over the place. She thinks she is quite hilarious. She has developed a
preference for certain songs, including "You Are My Sunshine," "My Lady I Love You
So," and "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes."
Friday, September 30 When we went to get into our car today to head to
Gymboree, and it wouldn't start! The battery was completely dead, but we're not
sure why. Mommy called Daddy, who was at lunch with all his co-workers, and
asked him to come home as soon as he was done. We didn't make it to Gymboree,
but he got home just in time to rush both of us up to Seattle University for
Mommy's Internship meeting. Mylie got to hang out and play with Daddy for a
couple hours while Mommy was in her meeting. Afterwards, we jumped in the car
and headed down to Tacoma to go to an Orientation Leaders Reunion Dinner at The
University of Puget Sound. We were a couple minutes late, but got there just
in time to introduce ourselves to the whole group. Mommy told everyone that she
had been the Orientation Coordinator, graduated in 2003, and Daddy introduced
himself as Mommy's husband, and then he held Mylie up and introduced her as a
member of the graduating class of 2027! Everyone applauded.
